About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1850 Lyell's Travels in the United States. Very good+ to NF. A lovely set from a rural NH library where they were stored in the attic for the past 70 years. Small stencil '973 L' on lower spine in white, Attractive "Abbia Frances Burnahm Greenleaf Library" on verso of front covers, small pc. of blank white tape? and very old owner name in draft ink to the front end paper, AGL Franconia, NH bookplate to the rear verso, stamped twice August, 1974 and small sticker with "Do Not Circulate", no other stamps present. Entire textblocks are very clean and free of any kind of markings, save for occasional light foxing. Hinges are tight, tops of spines equally chipped chipped. Original blind-stamped brown covers with titles in gilt on spines. Dated 1850 on both title pages. Quite a nice set of this scarce early USA travel title.
