Fold out map to front endpapers. In near fine condition. A very clean and tight copy. (slipcase with some marking.) Burton, Richard Francis, 1821-1890. Burton's famous and dangerous pilgrimage to Mecca and El-Medinah, made in disguise, as a Persian Mirza, as a Dervish and then as a Pathan, in order to enter the Holy Cities forbidden to the non-believer. The text follows the 1879 edition title ‘Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage...’ 539pp. With portrait frontis and many b&w photographs. Colour fold out map at front.
