About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf. Near Fine in Good dj. 1968. 4th printing. Hardcover. [minor shelfwear, light age-toning to top of text block, red letter "H" stamped on ffep for some reason; jacket is edgeworn, especially at spine extremities]. SIGNED on the ffep by both Gibson and Arthur Penn (the latter the director of the original 1958 Broadway production of the play), and additionally INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Gibson on the front pastedown. (Gibson and Penn were, of course, also famously associated through their tri-media collaboration on "The Miracle Worker," Gibson's best-known work; Penn was the director of the original TV production, the 1959 Broadway play, and the 1962 film version.) This volume presents "a day-by-day account of the making of a smash-hit play and a vivid portrait of the contemporary theater at work," and also includes the complete text of the play itself. (The film version of "Seesaw," starring Robert Mitchum and Shirley MacLaine, was directed by Robert Wise and released in 1962.) Signed by Author .
