Description

In 1964 the surprising Philadelphia Phillies were in first place from the start of the season. Then on September 21 when they had a six- and one-half game lead with 12 games to go, they then lost 10 straight and went on to lose the pennant. The author explores what happened, with an emphasis of the significant racial animus of the time. Remember though the real problem was the Philly manager Gene Mauch in his refusal to pitch Ray Culp at the seasons end. Condition of book and dust jacket fine.
