London: Smith, Elder, and Co, 1849. First Edition. A good plus copy with some wear to spine and slight loss at top of spine, over opened with some separation, contents generally clean and bright with only a touch of scattered foxing.. First edition with all first issue plates (and the only issue which contains Ruskin's own etched plates) in publisher's highly distinct embossed brown cloth (which Wise calls "deep claret colour"). A landmark text in the Gothic Revival. Imperial 8vo. viii, [1, errata slip], [4] 205pp., [1], [16pp., adverts + advert slip for the Stones of Venice dated 1849]. Wise 4. Scarce in the cloth and with the adverts, errata, and Stones of Venice slip all present.
