About the author

Joseph Dorris grew up in McCall, Idaho and spent much of his childhood hunting, fishing, and hiking the wilderness in which Sheepeater: To Cry for a Vision is set. Joseph has had a lifetime interest in Native American culture, particularly their customs and practices in training the young man and warrior. As an educator, he has developed leadership training materials using Native American practices. He is a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. Today, he is retired from the Air Force and lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado with his wife, Susan, where they have raised three children.
