On his third trip, for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in 1947, he stayed on in the liberated area of north China as a tractor technician a nd teacher until 1953. It was during that time that he lived in Long Bow and gathered material for his classic work, 'Fanshen : A Documentary of Revolution in a Chinese Village'. In 1971, he was invited back to China by Chou En-lai and spent three months in Long Bow village. Out of that visit came the idea for 'Shenfan', a second look at the ongoing revolution in China through the eyes of the villagers of Long Bow." ; VG/G
