About This Item

London: William Miller, 1804. Fine Binding. Very Good. 9.5" by 6". Not Stated. A wonderfully bound epic poem by this Scottish writer, himself lost to a shipwreck. This is an epic poem by Scottish writer William Falconer (1732-1769). Falconer's writing was concerned mostly with the sea, having also written a dictionary of marine terminology. He wrote 'The Shipwreck' in 1762, inspired by many years spent at sea; he was lost on the frigate 'Aurora' in 1770 when it was lost at sea, a tragic coincidence.Illustrated with a handful of full plate and vignette illustrations. In a wonderful straight grain morocco binding. In a straight grain morocco binding. Externally generally smart, some rubbing to the joints and the head of the spine with minor loss to the leather. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean. Very Good
