Although the 1972 series was the highlight of his career, (he) has a lot more to tell. As a Detroit Red Wing, he played with such greats as Gordie Howe, Alex Delvecchio, and Ted Lindsay and experienced the heartache of being on the losing side in two Stanley Cup finals. Dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1968, he found himself on the ice with the team that had won the Leaf's last Cup the previous year, skating alongside Dave Keon, Tim Horton, George Armstrong, and Ron Ellis. Participating in one of the game's golden eras, Henderson had the privilege of locking horns with the likes of Phil Esposito, Bobby Orr, and Bobby Hull. And, like Hull, he, too, jumped to the World Hockey Association, where he witnessed the arrival of Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, and a new breed of superstar. Finally, Henderson describes the difficult transition he and all professional athletes must face when retirement inevitably comes."
