Description

London: T. N. Longman, 1798., 1798.. Good. - Octavo, softcover, bound into later decorative wraps. There are tiny chips to the head & tail of the spine. The corners of the wraps are lightly creased with a chip to the bottom corner of the front wrap. 43 pages plus 1-page publisher's catalog. The half-title is lacking. The title page is darkened & dampstained with a tear to its top edge & with a previous owner's notes penciled on the verso. The page corners through page 10 are creased. Good. The author fears for the state of the world In the wake of the French Revolution. "At that memorable period, the new doctrines which had sprung up in France, had been industriously circulated throughout the various States of Europe, with a view to prepare the general destruction of all existing establishments, both civil and religious." The title page quotes Voltaire; "Ah! les plus grand tyrans--ce sont des Republiques." [Republics are the greatest tyrants].No edition is indicated.
