New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1922. Fitzgerald's first book, first issued in 1920; this is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing from two years later. Green cloth binding, with heavy blindstamping on the front cover, gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 305 pages, with two pages of publisher's adverts on the rear. Previous-owner signature on the front paste-down; mild bumps, top a bit dusty, spine darkened. The front gutter has been repaired. Lacking the dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
Synopsis
This Side of Paradise is the debut novel of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Published in 1920, and taking its title from a line of the Rupert Brooke poem Tiare Tahiti, the book examines the lives and morality of post-World War I youth. Its protagonist, Amory Blaine, is an attractive Princeton University student who dabbles in literature and has the book's theme of love warped by greed and status-seeking.
