Black, 1838. . 8vo, dark green pebbled leather, expertly rebacked; a.e.g. Irish-born playwright and diplomat, was in the service of the Earl of Durham, to whom the present work is dedicated, when Durham was Governor General of Canadaa, then went to Texas in 1839 and was sent in 1842 by the Republic of Texas to London as Consul for the new republic, protesting the building of Mexican men-of-war in Liverpool. By late 1842 he was appointed by the British government as British Consul to Texas and was sent to Galveston where he remained until Texas joined the United States; he returned to Europe in 1847
