About This Item
This regional suffragette and reformer was a leader in Wisconsin's women's rights movement and the first president of the Wisconsin League of Women Voters. Bold, black ink signature and lengthy title on a 4½" X 5" pale yellow slip, n.p., n.y. [ca. 1930]: "Mrs. Ben Hooper / Oshkosh Wis / Past Chairman of Inter / national Relations / General Federation of / Women's Clubs." Near fine. A 7/8" X 1 3/4" head-and-shoulders magazine portrait of her is neatly affixed in the blank area below this. Interesting that this ahead-of-her-day women's rights leader was still a product of her times and signs using her husband's name (he a noted progressive attorney and business/civic leader) and the title "Chairman"! Unusual.
