Moore apprenticed under Walter Lantz before going to Walt Disney as assistant animator (1940-42) on such films as "Fantasia" and "Dumbo," then story man (1946-50) for "Donald Duck," "Melody Time" and "Three Cabelleros" and finally as art director (1950-83); he also created "Sam the Eagle," the mascot for the 1984 Olympics. Wenzel created artwork for the Disney Company for 42 years, including much of their poster art for such films as the 1964 "Mary Poppins." Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Marceline, Missouri on 11 September 1968 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Near fine. Single 6-cent Moore and Wenzel designed "Walt Disney" stamp at upper right. Simple blue and gold "First Day Cover" printed cachet at left. No distracting recipient's name/address. Near the center, below the cancellation, Moore (in red fineline) and Wenzel (in black ballpoint) each sign boldly and in full. A great combination of two noted Disney artists on their best-known piece.
