1921. Fine condition/None. Original Sketch of the S.S. Strathcona in Labrador with Envelope, Wilfred Grenfell, 1921. 2.25 x 3.25 inches (sketch), 2.5 x 3.5 inches (envelope). Original ink sketch and envelope. Written on the sketch is "S. S. Strathcona, Labrador from Wilfred Grenfell, Mar 1921" The envelope is addressed to Mr. Hunter Scott of Omaha. The sketch depicts the S. S. Strathcona steaming towards land or an iceberg. Wilfred Grenfell (1865-1940) was a British physician and missionary sent to Newfoundland in 1892 by the Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. He worked tirelessly to bring vital health care to isolated communities, setting up cottage hospitals, nursing stations, schools, and stores and made an annual cruise to these posts in his hospital ship, the S.S. Lord Strathcona. (wikipedia).
