About This Item
New York, 1865. Very good condition. Albumen photograph by Mathew B. Brady (ca. 1823 - 1896), an important early American photographer best known for his images of the Civil war, and his iconic portraits of Abraham Lincoln.
The image shows the Embankment at the right, with rows of artillery neatly arranged, and a dirt path leading up the center towards 3 imposing brick offices. The view is to the north, with just a glimpse of the Hudson River at the center right. Looking northeast towards the back of Crow's Nest.
From the United States Military Academy Year Book 1865. Curved upper corners, surrounded by gilt rule, name stamped in gold at lower left, and "New York" at lower right. 4 1/2 x 3 5/8"
