Description

Houghton Mifflin Company, 1898. Hardcover. Very Good. Full green cloth with gilt lettering, black decorations with fish-hook motif, probably designed by Sarah Wyman Whitman. Near fine with minor toning & slant to spine. The story follows the adventures of a young minister in a fishing town (probably based on Gloucester, MA) as he tries to apply the teachings of Jesus in ways the church doesn't necessarily approve of. As with most Phelps books, there is a strong emphasis on women's role in society.
