1874. ALS. One page autograph letter signed by Sir John Lubbock. Note measures 7 x 4 1/2 inches. Two previous folds; light toning. Pinhole at top edge. Clipped catalog snippet tipped in on verso. Letter itself, addressed to W. Young relays the news of W. Kelham being elected an outpensioners at Modern College, a home for retired merchants. Sir John Lubbock (1834-1913) , according to Wikipedia was " was an English banker, Liberal politician, philanthropist, scientist and polymath. Lubbock worked in his family company as a banker but made significant contributions in archaeology, ethnography, and several branches of biology. He coined the terms "Paleolithic" and "Neolithic" to denote the Old and New Stone Ages, respectively." .
