This is a Very Good + Copy of this hardcover Book in Publisher's original light blue rubbed cloth with gilt title lettering to spine and upper cover.Excellent condition and highly sought after title by the Scots for the remarkable Designer and Bridge Builder.This copy has NO previous names or inscriptions present.Binding remains firm and it's nice tight square copy with a little age toning to the front endpaper.Illustrated with 16 black and white plates.Sir William Arrol was a contracted and largely responsible for the fabrication and construction of steel bridges many of which were at the forefront of technology. He developed methods of working and techniques which are still used today. After the collapse of the First Tay Bridge, the major bridges of the time in the United Kingdom, the Second Tay, Forth and Tower Bridges, were entrusted to him and his company. Achieving wide acclaim in bridge construction he swa to the development of specialist equipment for the manufacture and erection of steel components, for example the hydraulic riveters and cranes. This led to the development and production of machine tools and material handling devices.In later years he helped finance the Arrol-Johnston Automobile Business,Scarce and sought after title,8vo 150pp + 64 pages of Publisher's ads to rear of the book.First Edition [1913] .
