First line
The town variously known as Skagus, Mooresville, Skaguay and finally Skagway, the name it bears today, was first settled on October 20, 1887, by an old seafaring man, Capt. William "Billy" Moore, who had made and lost several fortunes as a sometimes riverboat captain and pilot, prospector, packer and trader.
