Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington (born Ariadni-Anna Stasinopoulou, Greek: - , July 15, 1950) is a Greek-American author, syndicated columnist, and businesswoman. She is the founder of The Huffington Post, the founder and CEO of Thrive Global, and the author of fifteen books. In May 2005, she launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site. In August 2016, she launched Thrive Global, a corporate and consumer well-being and productivity platform. She has been named to Time Magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people and the Forbes Most Powerful Women list. Originally from Greece, she moved to England when she was 16 and graduated from Girton College, Cambridge, where she earned a B.A. in economics. At 21, she became president of the famed debating society, the Cambridge Union. Derived from a Kirkus review: A book about sleep deprivation from an author well-versed on the subject. Huffington ranks 52nd on Forbes' list of the most powerful women in the world. She describes her own experience in 2007, when she suffered a burnout and collapsed at her desk. At that time, she slept, at most, four hours each night. Huffington's situation as a celebrity and mother was not dissimilar to that of other successful people. She estimates that nearly half of American adults are sleep-deprived. All-nighters have become a mark of success. For those looking to get ahead in their careers and others who need to hold two jobs to make ends meet, going without sleep has become the norm. This abuse of our bodies is devastating not only to our health; job performance and relationships also suffer. She relates instances where reliance on sleep medications has induced potentially dangerous behavior. Her takeaway message is that we should prioritize sleeping seven to eight hours every day.
