About This Item

Self Published, 1984. Assumed First Edition . Trade Paperback. Good. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2. 136 Pages. There are the remains of a small name label on the front cover top corner near the spine area. Author's inscription on the front endpaper reads "5/3/84 To Gene Dounem Thanks Marion V. Allen". First three pages beginning to lose their glue. Snap is the story of an unusual horse who was born on Buffalo Bench, Wyoming, in 1910. Homesteading was at its peak in that district and a homesteader's survival depended more on his horse than anything else except his own ability. This story covers a period of time approximately from 1910 to 1930. Without the horse the history of the West would have been a lot different, and the horses in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, in 1910 were a mixture of many kinds. Snap was a cross between a gray Percheron stud, a small horse for that breed, and a dark sorrel mare with a white star from the Wind River country who showed some signs of breeding, probably Morgan. The combination in this case produced a close-coupled, well-built horse who had exceptional speed for a quarter or half-mile and was the type which later became the quarter horse. Many of the draft horses were Percheron or Clydesdale and Morgan, mixed with Indian ponies of all kinds and colors. The author takes no responsibility for the accuracy of this story because it was written by a horse, and even horses can make mistakes.
