The 24 lithographs are printed on an olive green ground in black white and several colors; the title page is printed in green and black on a white ground. 4to., reddish brown cloth spine stamped in gilt, green cloth boards stamped in gilt and red. Moderate shelfwear, spine sunned, a few small dark spots to front board. Overopened at lightly foxed half-title. Front flyleaf has a few small closed tears; edges of most plates with tiny nick to fore-edge, light foxing to edges of text pages. Delightful Aldin illustrations, all clean and bright, without foxing or any blemishes. Pickles, a boundlessly energetic white puppy, gets into a lot of mischief. Quite scarce.

New York: Viking, 1953 Red pictorial cloth with mild shelf wear; color illustrated dust jacket with light edge wear, small repair to rear panel, original price intact ($3.00), NO award seal. Madeline is saved from drowning by a dog who then returns with the girls and Miss Clavel. Wouldn't you know it, the dog will need the help of Madeline and her friends very soon after. Full color frontis, full page lithographs in limited color as well as color textual elements and chapter heads. Rare in this condition.. First Edition. Very Good. 4to.

Bound in publisher's decorated pink paper-covered boards backed with a tan cloth spine, lacking the dust jacket. About Very Good. Covers soiled, faded and edge-worn. Previous owner name heavily scratched out on front free endpaper. Pages thumbed and with occasional light creases or wear. Scarce first printing of the classic children's book about a pacifist bull who would rather smell flowers than fight.

Hodder & Stoughton. London. 1906. FIRST EDITION. 4to. (10.2 x 7.7 inches). Illustrated with a colour frontis and forty nine full colour plates, all mounted onto thick art paper pages at back of book, each one with a printed tissue guard. Decorative endpapers with map of Kensington Gardens. A near fine, bright and clean copy throughout in original russet cloth binding with gilt stamped decoration and lettering to front board and spine. Very minor rubbing to hinges and a small bump to the lower front board at the outer corner, but overall a beautiful clean copy of this classic. Among the very best of Rackham's work.

NY: Blue Ribbon, 1933. First edition. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Pictorial paper boards. Four large, colorful pop-ups. Full color endpapers. Text illustrations in black and cream. Original colorfully printed boards. The four large pop-ups are in fine condition. There is some age-browning to the boards, and both corners are bumped, but this is a very good copy. With the scarce pictorial dustwrapper, also lightly age-browned else in very good condition. Overall, a nice copy of this early Disney work.

A Rare First Edition of the WINNER OF THE FIRST CALDECOTT AWARD for Best Illustrated Children's Book in 1938. First Issue with Lathrop's name misspelled "Lathop" on both the spine of the book and the spine of the dust jacket. This copy is Signed by Dorothy Lathrop on the blank page opposite the title page. The Book is in Very Good+ condition with mild toning and foxing on the endpapers and paste-downs, a dark spot on the first 4 pages. No writing or other marks. Gilt lettering on front board and spine Bright, no wear. Edges and corners show slight wear. Dust Jacket Very Good+ with small chips, light edge wear, and a red stain on the rear panel, the front is clean. Not price-clipped, "$2.00" on the top front dj flap. No medal or mention of Caldecott Award on the dust jacket. Writing in pencil inside front cover explaining the edition and rarity. 160 p. Includes: illustrations, index. Extremely rare Initial Teaching Alphabet experimental edition of the New Basic Readers of Fun with our Friends. This was piloted in a few select schools but was abandoned 1-2 years after it began. The I.T.A. was developed by Sir James Pitman and was intended for use with children with extreme reading disabilities. This is a first and ONLY edition printed in 1965. Volume 4 only of Friedrich Bertuch's famous Picture-Book for Children, an illustrated encyclopedia for children. With 100 hand-coloured copperplates. Explanatory text in German and French.The Picture-Book was published in 12 volumes from 1790 to 1843 and eventually included 1,185 handcoloured copperplates. Bertuch wished to reproduce the magic of discovery, and mixed engravings of plants, animals, shells, minerals, volcanoes and technical inventions in a utopian chaos, so that a child could encounter afresh the wonders of the natural world at the turn of every page. Fully illustrated with 24 wonderful full colour plates (XYZ appear together on one page) within a border and above a humourous verse, plus 2 double page decorative line drawings, printed in different shades of brown on parchment paper, for the endpapers. Colour pages are printed on one side only. A bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original grey/dark green paper covered, bevelled edged, boards with lettering and illustration to the front board by Dulac, printed in Gold, white, orange and light green. Rear board with circular design printed in white, gold and green. Plain yellow cloth spine. Some minor marking to the spine but overall a lovely clean, tight, near fine copy. Among the artists best and most imaginative works, this title is also one of the scarcest books that he illustrated. The humour in his verse is far surpassed by the comical imagination of the plates and shows the lighter side of Dulac's nature.… Read More
