About This Item

London: W. H. Allen, 1979. First edition. Hardback. Good/Good. W. H. Allen, London, 1979. First edition. Book condition: good. Only very minor shelf wear but the pages are a little tanned - otherwise clean and unmarked. Dust jacket condition: good. Price clipped. Minor shelf wear around the edges and a little discolouration here and there. This is a series of related poems about Lucifer's attempt to overthrow God, of his defaet and fall, and of his journeying through the ages before a kind of reconcilliation is possible. Lucifer is the spirit of Man the scientist and mechanic, and so is responsible for progress, as well as the pursuit of war and self destruction. This is a major work, and Alan Sillitoe's fifth book of poetry.
