Early edition of the work, in the publisher's original blue cloth binding. First published in 1918. Author's presentation copy, with the inscription 'Mrs Russell, with the author's best wishes' dated November 1921, to the front endpaper. Written by British historian George Gordon Coulton, who was known for his multiple works on medieval history. This work explores the social life in Britain in the years between the conquest and the reformation, with key sections on Land and Folk, Women's Life, Rich and Poor, Superstitions and Marvels, and many others. With forty illustrations to accompany the text. With the pictorial bookplate of T & M James. In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to the cloth and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine. Hinges are a touch strained, but holding firm. Bookplate to front paste down. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good
