If you are interested in the social and political ideas of some great French thinkers of the Age of Reason, this collection of essays by Fossey John Cobb Hearnshaw will provide exactly that with a heavy dose of a now-antiquated, some would say imperio-monarchist ideology that for whatever reason, has not prevented Professor Hearnshaw's works from remaining sporadically in print. In any case, Hearnshaw also held the post of Honorary Secretary of the Royal Historical Society. The book has a tight, square, solid binding in maroon buckram with gilt lettering on the spine -- and is in about the condition a book would be in if someone had bought it in 1967, discarded the dust jacket as people used to do, and put it on a shelf until just today. Which appears to be the case. As I am meticulous, slight imperfections prevent me from rating this as Fine or Mint, but hey, it's fine and it doesn't cost a mint.
