About the author

Janet Lim holds a significant position in the modern history of Singapore: she was the first ever Asian nurse to be promoted to the position of matron in Singapore. After WWII, she settled permanently in Australia, where she now has three children and six grandchildren. Twenty years after WWII, doctors discovered that Janet had suffered a ruptured spleen and bowel from jumping into the sea when the ship she was escaping Singapore on was bombed and sunk by the Japanese. That she did not succumb to her internal injuries during her two-day ordeal drifting at sea, Janet ascribes to God and salt water. Author resides in Brisbane, Australia.
