Printed for A. Brown ... and A. Megget .., Edinburgh, 1786. A New Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Book The last work published by Bunyan, first published in the year of his death, 1688. It went through multiple editions through the end of the 18th century. Includes the scarce folding plate as the frontispiece. ESTC shows eight holdings, all in the British Isles. WorldCat shows five holdings (under three OCLC numbers): National Library of Scotland, University of Edinburgh – New College Library & Cardiff University (646835180), National Library of Scotland (again) & University of Oxford (315076178); University of Glasgow (181673348). The ESTC list adds The British Library, Birmingham University Library and the Congregational Library. Size: 6"-7" - Sextodecimo (16mo). 142 pages. Item Type: Book. The text block is tight. The paper has darkened with age and there is light foxing throughout. The frontispiece is a 12 1/2" by 11 5/8" folded plate with an elevation of "The Temple of Solomon" and a map of Jerusalem. The plate is in excellent condition with no foxing. Rebound in original covers of calf over boards with a new spine and end papers. The spine has been replaced with a dark leather strip without any title or decoration. Three sections have been salvaged from the original end papers and pasted onto the inside front cover and front free end paper. They include two signatures of Tho. Bowden dated 1798 and a bookplate of George Allen. The page edges are slightly browned. There is a light oval stamp of a church library on the verso of the rear free end paper. Quantity Available: 1.
