About This Item

Bloomington, Indiana: AuthorHouse, 2005. CX6 - A hardcover book SIGNED and inscribed by author to previous owner on the front free endpaper in very good condition in very good dust jacket. Dust jacket has some wrinkling and chipping on the edges and corners, patch of the clear plastic film peeled and chipping on the lower spine, dust jacket and book have some bumped corners, light discoloration and shelf wear. 9.25"x6.25", 306 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Each shovel of earth muffled the boy's cry from the grave. As the acid taste of bile burned his throat, Benny shoveled frantically, trying to cover the terrible screams of his friend being buried alive. If he failed the guards would not hesitate to make his fate that of Moses. Hitler's army invades Poland, and eleven-year-old Benny faces overwhelming odds. Song of a Sparrow is not just another testimonial against Nazi atrocities. It's about a boy's six-year fight for freedom. Seized by fear and starvation, Benny refuses to be sucked into paranoia and defeatism. The boy sings for food and for his life, courageously and miraculously escaping that which threatens him - the Warsaw ghetto, labor and concentration camps, the mobile gas unit, hanging, and even the shooting pit. Fifteen years after his liberation Bernard Lipman's encounters were still vivid, and he decided to try to seek closure by keeping a diary. He brought his journal to the author in the late 1990's. Thus began a miraculous journey for both of them. Song of a Sparrow reminds us what happens when nations are complacent. Lying dormant in each of us is the instinct to survive. Perhaps Song of a Sparrow will help some of us find it, and teach us to live longer than hate.. Signed by Author. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
