Fine in very good original black slipcase with mottling to spine. Roesch, Kurt. [76] pages, 9 unnumbered leaves of plates. 41 x 26.5 cm. Limited edition, copy XX of XXXV numbered and signed copies designed by S.A Jacobs, printed by The Golden Eagle Press on hand-made Arches paper. Each plate designed and engraved with illustrations on copper by Kurt Roesch, whose signature also appears on the colophon page. "Dedication The Sonnets To Orpheus Written As A Monument For Vera Ouckama Knoop Chateau De Muzot February 1922." Since his work was translated in the 1930s, Rilke has never lost his significance for English-speaking poets.

Synopsis

The Sonnets to Orpheus are a collection of 55 sonnets written in 1922 by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926). The work is based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and is considered one of his masterpieces.
