Collection of poems first published in German with the title 'Sonette an Orpheus', written as a monument for Wera Ouckama Knoop. This volume has the German text alongside an English translation, notes and introduction by J B Leishman. 187pp illustrated with black and white photograph to frontis. Ex university library copy with labels, ticket in pocket, stamp to verso of title page and labels to top board and spine. Slight bumping to spine and corners, hinges starting and light foxing and marking to page edges, otherwise fair/good copy..
Synopsis
The Sonnets to Orpheus are a collection of 55 sonnets written in 1922 by the poet Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926). The work is based on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, and is considered one of his masterpieces.
