Houghton-Mifflin., 1964. Hard cover. Good. No dust jacket. Ex-library. Library use left minor wear to spine, light exterior soiling. Clean interior.. Graboff, Abner (Pictures by).. 1 48 p. Mustard color cloth over boards. Front art in black. Spine titles black. Stitched binding. Photographed collage art in white, browns, black. 9 in. square. RARE Abner Graboff illustrated children's book about an animal with low self-esteem. Every other animal seen has distinguishing qualities, making him sad at his own plain appearance. A lion gave him a long neck like a graceful giraffe, but that did not work out with short legs. He saw romping elephants, and returned to the lion to get a trunk. No, that did not work for him. How about wings like a hawk? Splash he went, landing in the water when trying to fly. Discouraged, he said to the lion, he would stay a "no-sort-of-animal". But, the lion gave him a tail, and he found he could run with all sorts of dogs, happily. A dog is a dog. The artwork is simple, elegant, expressive.
