· Casting the work in a "Franco-Cockney" rather than Spanish culture
This 1822 edition was published in Edinburgh, printed in five volumes, and includes a 'life of Cervantes' by J.G. Lockhart – the first edition to feature Lockhart's essay.

'The Mysteries of Paris' is a classic French novel by Eugene Sue, published in the mid-19th-century. In many ways, 'Mysteries of Paris' was a landmark work as well as being controversial.
