New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1952. Rowan reports on his 6,000 mile trip through the southern United States, and what it was like to be a black person there in the 1940s and early 1950s. First printing of Rowan's first book. Bumped and rubbed, boards a bit soiled, binding square and solid. Previous owner's gift inscription, bookplate (Charles Horace Mayo II) and signed "With best wishes, Carl T. Rowan" on the front end paper. Jacket rubbed with long tears, with 2" loss to the upper spine and a 3" chip to the lower rear panel, in Brodart.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Poor.
