Bound in publisher's original black cloth-affect boards over green spine cloth lettered in black. Near Fine in a Very Good+ unclipped dust jacket with a rubber stamp number to the front panel, light toning, soiling and wear, creases to the flaps, sunning to spine and tape reinforcements made to the spine ends from the verso. The story of three African-American brothers whose father was lynched while they were young, and who wear white carnations in their lapels as a reminder of his violent death. Smith is linked to the black social protest novel tradition of the 1940s and the 1950s, a movement that became synonymous with writers such as Richard Wright, Ralph Ellison, Willard Motley, and Ann Petry.
