Author's signed presentation inscription to front free endpaper reads: "To Mrs Salomé Benjamin / With many thanks for sound and welcome suggestions and for putting it all into typed script. / J Bruwer, Author, 12.8.66". 8vo; original red boards, lettered in black on spine; pictorial dustwrapper; pp. (x) + 147; maps; tables. Dustwrapper sunned on spine panel, a little edgeworn, with tape marks to reverse; foxed throughout. Good. "In this book Prof. Bruwer, who by his training as an ethnologist and his experience as Commissioner-General for the Bantu population of South West Africa can write with authority, tells how peace and progress were achieved through sound administration. But he also traces the coming of the various peoples to the Territory and the internecine was which were the curse of that unhappy country." .
