About This Item

Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, 1953. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/near fine. Octavo, 350pp. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, with some dust-soiling and very gentle foxing to the edges. In a near fine dust jacket, with a small area of tape ghost, and very mild creasing. A delightful copy, SIGNED by Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith on the front free endpaper. Almost certainly unique thus! Note that the book is not signed by Harris. "The Southpaw" is the first of four baseball novels by Harris which center around the character of Henry "Author" Wiggen, the most enduring of which is "Bang the Drum Slowly." "The Southpaw" is scarce in an attractive dust jacket, and we've never seen one signed by a Major League Baseball player, much less a hall-of-famer.

About Cleveland Book Company

We are proud members of the ABAA.

As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
