Original blind-stamped dull purple cloth lettered in gilt to upper board, a little faded to spine and wear to lower joint, else a tight clean very good copy now Mylar protected. FIRST EDITION. An interesting memoir from a prominent English spiritualist who followed various mediums , including the American magicians / mediums, Ira Erastus Davenport (1839-1911) and William Henry Davenport (1841-1877), better known as "The Davenport Brothers", who both made a career worldwide presenting illusion that they and others claimed to be supernatural despite having been exposed as frauds on numerous occasions. Nonetheless, Cooper had accepted them as unquestionably genuine. Belief was rife in England in the 1850s and 1860s and accounts of psychic encounters proliferated, this one by the self-proclaimed Davenport's representative in England is very scarce.
