New York: The Century Co, 1917. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 576p. Ex-library; REBOUND. A hardcover book that has been rebound in black buckram. Edges worn and boards lightly scuffed. Library stamp and bookplatet inside; no exterior library markings. Small stain transferred through pages 474-486, although the pages remain readable. Otherwise, text clean and binding tight. Volume 44, Part 1 of the children's magazine ST. NICHOLAS, containing the monthly issues from November 1916 through April 1917. Filled with stories, poems, and educational articles, with lots of beautiful black and white vintage illustrations. This volume features "In Gnome-Man's Land" by Tudor Jenks, an article about John Muir by Mary R. Parkman, the poem "Christmas Eve" by Isabel Lyndall, and several installments of "Understood Betsy" by Dorothy Canfield [Fisher] who was responsible for introducing the Montessori method of education in the United States.
