About This Item
Munich: Prestel, 2003. First printing. Hardcover. Fine. Merian [1647 - 1717] was a German entomologist and scientific illustrator. 'She was one of the earliest European naturalists to document observations about insects directly.' (wikipedia dot com) Her lifelong study of insects and incorporation of the various stages of insect development into her illustrations established that insects had life cycles and dislodged the early idea that bugs were created from spontaneous generation.
Folio, 176pp, 196 color plates, red cloth binding, cream title on spine, unclipped dust jacket, in red paper-covered slipcase with blind-stamped signature to one side.
