To him there was only God, infinitely great, and the individual man, infinitely small, and the demands which each made of the other were irreconcilable. To the comfortable religiosity of the nineteenth century this was intolerable, and Kierkegaard was bitterly attacked as well as misunderstood." Spine and hinges a bit worn, especially along top of spine. Closed tear to pp 165-66. Overall, a very nice copy.
