Berlin: S. Fischer, 1927. First Edition. Hard Cover with Dust Jacket. Fine/About Fine. First issue in original pale blue cloth, decorated in gilt and black, original beige dust jacket, printed in black. The Tractat is bound in, with yellow printed wrappers, and separately paginated. 12mo, [9]10-64[33 pages, the Tractat 65 -289[1]. Second issue dust jacket with 16. bis 25. Auflage on front panel of dust jacket. Minor expert restoration to jacket, 1/4 inch at foot of jacket spine. Four copies show in the auction record, only 2 of those with dust jackets; the present copy is the finest copy we have seen. Mostly autobiographical, Der Steppenwolf is Mr. Hesse's best-known work. A blend of Eastern mysticism and Western culture, it is one of modern literature's most prosaic evocations of the soul's journey to liberation, through epiphany. Mr. Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1946.

Description:
New York: The Viking Press, 1964. A novel complex, compelling, absurd and realistic, Herzog became a classic almost as soon as it was published in 1964. In it Saul Bellow tells the tale of Moses E. Herzog, a tragically confused intellectual who suffers from the breakup of his second marriage, the general failure of his life and the specter of growing up Jewish in the middle part of the 20th century. He responds to his personal crisis by sending out a series of letters to all kinds of people. The letters in total constitute a thoughtful examination of his own life and that which has occurred around him. What emerges is not always pretty, but serves as gritty foundation for this absorbing novel. "A masterpiece" (The New York Times). Named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best novels in the English language since Time's founding in 1923.

Description:
London: Cassell & Company, 1935. First Edition. First edition of Lawrence Durrell's first novel. Highly autobiographical in character, an apprentice effort, Durrell's novel sank largely without trace. And as with so many unsold titles, the majority of copies were destroyed during the Blitz. Blue boards with the barest hint of rubbing to edges; no dustjacket, spine incorrectly lettered Pied Pipers of Lovers, bookseller's price on front free endpaper, slight spotting to fore and top-edges, otherwise a clean, solid, well-preserved copy of Lawrence's exceedingly scarce first novel.

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Description:
New York: Random House, 1959. Book. Illus. by Sam March (dust jacket design). Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. Humes's second novel, following 'The Underground City,' both of which led to his being considered by Esquire magazine as having the same promise as two obscure guys named Updike and Styron (whoever they are). Anyway, he met a guy named Leary who introduced him to a little substance known as LSD, and after seriously indulging his fondness for the hallucinogen he became a trifle paranoid and a bit delusional, which pretty much ended his writing career. Humes was co-founder (with Peter Matthiessen and George Plimpton) of The Paris Review. He died of prostate cancer in 1992. Black cloth w/gilt lettering, 184 pages. Mildly cocked, light general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/light rubbing, light edgewear, creases to fore-edges of both flaps..
