About This Item
Boston: Osgood & Co, 1869. First Edition. Original wraps. Very good. 12 volumes January 1869 Vol V, No. 1 - December 1869 Vol. V No. XII 12 volumes illustrated with steel engravings, original orange printed wraps. Serial publication of Aldrich's semi-autobiographical novel. On the spines of the wrappers the 12 issues are numered from 49-60. Considered one of the foundational texts of American juvenile literature, specifically the genre of "badboy" literture. The novel was published in book form in 1970 and much admired: the only complaint about it seems to be that the boy wasn't all that bad, Caob Blank, Peter Parley to Penrod p. 35. The wrappers on the first six issues are lightly worn, the remaining issues in near fine condition; a remarkable copy of this important American novel, enclosed in a two-part cloth slipcase
