London: Macmillan, 1938. 144 pp, 9 1/2" H. Dark green cloth with gilt lettering on spine, gilt illustration of red-deer stag on front board, top edge gilt. 12 colour plates (including frontispiece) and 12 gravure plates (all present). The story of a red-deer stag, from his birth on Exmoor to his death in a waterfall as he attempts to elude hounds and hunters. In the interim, the life of the moor and forest intertwines with his as other inhabitants are introduced: rabbits, weasels, foxes, greyhens, blackcocks, pheasants, ducks, salmon, etc. Light browning to endpapers and in margins of pages, three places where there is slight separation between page gatherings - pages holding firmly, light edge wear to boards, light wrinkling at bottom of spine, light browning to fore-edge of text block, slight lean to spine, .
