Description

Last Gasp, 2019 Stanislav Szukalski (1893-1987) was a one-of-a-kind artists who possess a great talent but do not achieve fame that would be congruent to that talent. So many artists have experienced this of course; the cliche response is that you need to die before anyone notices your work. Due to geopolitical upheavals in Szukalskis native and Poland a large proportion of his work was destroyed. Yet thanks to the efforts of a group of dedicated art patrons art critics, and personal acquaintances, the work of Szukalski is being re-evaluated and actually shown to the public. This book is the first critical view of his work to come out since 1923. His life and work are revealed in an historical and art history context, followed by a selection of works with commentary by the artist. That commentary gives a first view of the artist's idiosyncratic ideology.. 2nd Edition. Soft cover. Fine.

Blood in the form of an enveloping hand climbs the pedestal upon which man has raised himself and, wrapping his head, it drags him down.
