Twin red and green title and author labels and date label in red to spine foot. Gilt fillet borders to both boards and deep inner dentelle work, also to both boards. Rich green marbling to paste-downs and end-papers. Illustration of author to title page verso. Top page edges in gilt, remainder uncut.
There are 10 copper plate scenic illustration and a number of smaller illustrations throughout by W. Noel Johnson.
CONDITION
The binding is in very good firm and strong condition with firm hinges. There are a few very light surface marks bit you need to look very carefully. It is actually difficult to find fault with this volume.
Internally, the pages are very bright and clean, there is a little light foxing and a few spots to the end-papers. There is a little light offsetting from the copper engraved frontispiece, and the first page of preface has a tiny nick to the bottom edge. Else the volume is in lovely, crisp clean and bright condition throughout.
Please always refer to photo images for a clearer indication of condition.
We are always happy to provide further photo images if required.
INTERESTING
It is not easy to find information on George J. P. Milner.
Worsfolds are a lesser-known bookbinder family from London. Records indicate they started in practice in 1803 through William Worsfold and continued up until 1929. Also, some of the Worsfold family worked for Hatchards in the 1850s.
