First edition in English.Page edges browned as usual but generally a very good copy in publishers burgundy cloth binding. Front board and spine lettered and elaborately decorated in gilt. Spine has oxidised a bit resulting in the gilt being a bit dulled. Original full colour first state dustwrapper, without any mention of this title in the listings. Wrapper shows characters from the 1927 Danish silent film directed by A. W Sandberg. Some chipping top corners but overall a very good example. The film was relased in England by Gaumont.:

Published the year before in Beetons Christmas annual. Green & Gibson A1, a.i. (second impression). Publisher's preface with missprint 'youuger', para 2, line 3. ------- Bound in early (circa 1890's) half vellum with red morocco label, ruled and lettered in gilt. Marbled paper on boards. Plain white endpapers. Bound without the printed wrappers and advertisements. Six line illustrations by Charles Doyle, (the Author's Father) throughout the book. Previous owner name on the title page and some light foxing to the first and last few pages and occasionally on some page margins and the fore edge but overall a very good bright copy throughout. Whilst a copy in original wraps would be preferable, an early binding is the next best thing. A highly desirable true rarity of English literature.

Colour frontis, 22 full page mono plates and hundreds of small engraved vignettes to the margins of the text pages, all by E. Caldwell. This is the scarce first issue with the margin drawings of a dung beetle pushing his load with his front legs rather than his back on pages 65, 337 and 457. These were changed in later issues. Some feint offsetting to the blank endpapers and a few pages with some minor spotting but generally a very bright and clean copy throughout. Publishers original dark green cloth with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and the spine. The board edges are lightly rubbed and the gilt just a little dulled but overall a very good copy of this scarce first edition.

"The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Her husband Joseph Morrell Dodge had a long and distinguished career and tried to help reform Europe but later wound up as financial advisor to Douglas MacArthur in the economic revitalization of Japan. This edition is in very good condition internally. Photos of Ikebana arrangements by the famous Japan Ikebana master. A gift given to Julia Jeffers Dodge and placed in her library. 38 single sided (double page but other side blank) on high quality Japan paper with photo examples of Ikebana, black and white. A rare publication.
