The first UK edition, first impression with a complete numberline. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. This novel was written by Elizabeth Jolley, an Australian author, and tells the story of Edwin, whose wife leaves for a medical fellowship, and finds himself hosting his neighbour and her daughter who have locked themselves out of their house. When Edwin becomes passionately obsessed with the daughter and finds her to be pregnant, he decides to turn her into his surrogate mother. In the publisher's original cloth with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely with only minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and fading to the head of the boards.
