About this book

Based on real events and acquaintances of Hemingway, Sun Also Rises is about American and English expats in Pamplona.

First Edition Identification

Published by Scribner's in 1926, the first printing of The Sun Also Rises was a fairly small run of 5090 copies.  The original release is notable and identifiable for it's opulent dust jacket, which is an unusually large percentage of the value of first editions.  The attention to the design of the front cover is slightly at odds with other sloppy details. The dust jacket lists Hemingway's previous book as In Our Times rather than In Our Time, one of a number of typos throughout the original publication of the book. The author picture on the back cover is a sketch of Hemingway instead of a more costly photograph, but it is the original work of art on the front of that jacket for which the book is remembered.
