Dr.Barbara J. Walker is Professor of reading education at Oklahoma State University where she teaches courses in reading difficulties and coordinates the Reading and Math Center. An international professional leader, Barbara Walker has served on the board of directors of the International Reading Association and the College Reading Association. Before teaching at the college level, she was an elementary school reading specialist and an instructor in a college developmental reading program. She also coordinated the instructional program at a home for children with disabilities in Cochamba, Bolivia.

In 1997, Barbara's outstanding contribution to reading education was recognized when she received the College Reading Association's A.B. Herr Award. Her research interests focus on teacher development, early literacy intervention and reading difficulties. Her most important work, however, is preparing teachers to work with struggling readers, and in this capacity she has helped improve the literacy of thousands of struggling readers.
